But first you must apply solution 1 because it will also stop Service Host Local System from excess usage of CPU, Memory and Disk. Now lets begin with solutions.

Service Host Local System

Service Host Local System is a process performed by your internal Windows OS which usually appears in Windows 10 and occupies Disk and CPU by almost 90%. There are lot other internal tasks performed by internal Windows 10 OS such as Windows Update which tend to occupy network data along with CPU, Memory and Disk Usage.

You must have numerous times faced deadlocks while accessing our personal computer i.e. our computer get freezes during the middle of work. The most common reason for this is because we run applications more than the capacity of RAM. The most common fixture for this is by pressing alt + shift + delete keys on the keyboard at once and then clearing the process in the task manager window. But, wait, what is that on the task manager screen under the “processes” tab and named as Service Host Local System? Don’t be surprised after watching this process, not because it will be taking 90% of your CPU usage but for the fact that you can turn it off from there only. Before turning it off, we should know about it in more details or it may hamper other processes running on the system. Here you will also get to learn about, how to disable it in Windows 10.

What is “Service Host Local System”?

An original Windows 10 may cost you few $100 depending on the version of it. Students do not prefer it because they sometimes cannot own it. They rather, install the unlocked version of windows so that they can work freely without any hassle. The unlocked version is free of cost and is hassle-free also. Furthermore, it does not have the hassle of updating, in other words, you can say all the versions of windows have update functionality and it’s actually us who turn it off to save us some time. Furthermore when we turn it off, the unlocked and the illegal version does not get detected by the servers of windows. If by any chance we left it turned on and gets detected by the windows server then they will install a malware in the registry and can make the OS run slow with a black background. Sometimes having an original version and keeping the update feature turned on may be troublesome.

Nowadays Windows has somehow tried to fill the loophole by introducing the “Service Host Local System” which runs in the foreground only but we don’t see it. Windows Service Host Local System which can also be found as Tiworker.exe is a windows update service which looks for new updates on the internet and later on installs it on your computer. The process gets automatically turned on when you look for windows update service on your computer. This can be a bit problematic and sometimes can interrupt other work and you might get a need to turn it off. Here are some ways to turn off Service Host Local System.

Solution 1:

Stop Background Services in Windows

As we discuss earlier Service Host: Local Host consists of set of inbuilt tasks and background services is one of  them. You cannot directly End Task for Service Host Local System but stopping background services will stop the data usage by Service Host Local System.

How to Stop Background Services in Windows?

  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Expand Service Host: Local System.Service Host Local System
  3. Right Click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service and click on Stop.
  4. Also Right Click on Delivery Optimisation and click on Stop.

This will immediately stop the data usage, memory usage and disk usage by Service Host Local System. Now again inbuilt processes won’t consume data usage but as I said this work as temporary solution. Once you restart your PC this might start consuming your data again. So now apply Solution 2 to permanently disable inbuilt features from using your internet data.

Solution 2:

Set Your Network on Meter Connection

Once you will set your network on meter connection then inbuilt features of your PC such as Service Host Local System won’t be able to use your internet data. Setting your network on Meter Connection won’t reduce your internet speed, it will just not allow your PC to consume internet data automatically. Option of Setting your internet connection on meter connection is only available on Windows 8 and Windows 10 only. Applying solution 1 wont solve this issue permanently but solution once you applied solution 2 and set your connection on meter connection then until and unless you connect with some new network Service Host Local System won’t be able to access your internet bandwidth.

How to Set your internet connection on Meter Connection:

  1. Click on Windows Button.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open Network & Internet Settings.
  4. Now Click on Advanced Settings.
  5. Now toggle On the option of Meter Connection.

It is highly likely that this one process can get messed up and this some results in a high CPU usage and sometimes also in 100% of the disk usage. There are two ways to do that, one is by turning it into the manual and other is by downloading the windows update trouble-shooter. Let us take a look at both of the ways to fix this issue.

Enable Updates by User Permissions

This step requires some knowledge of the Windows operating system. Although it’s not a tiresome task but a bit knowledge of Windows operating system will also speed up the work. Let us take a look at the process to turn off Service Host Local System.

  1. Firstly you need to Press Windows + R key on your keyboard. There you will see a search bar like interface, there you have to type “services.msc” and press enter to continue.
  2. Next, you need to search for the “Service Host Local System” and open the Settings thereupon.
  3. Next, you need to switch the start type to manual and also has to repeat this step for the Windows Update service as well.
  4. Next, you need to open the Control Panel on your computer and click on the Windows Update option. There, on the left side of the screen, you will see an option “Change Settings”. There you need to change the default settings to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them”.
  5. Once you are done setting up you can restart your computer so that the settings can take effect.

After the completion of the above steps, you have set your Windows update process to manual likely. This means that the application will not run in the background and is thus disabled to function on its own. If this does not solve your problem then there is an alternative version as well. The alternative version is quite easier than this one. Let us take a look at the alternative way to disable the Service Host Local System.

Alternative Solution

This is the alternative version which is also a better and easier solution disabling the Service Host Local System. But before proceeding further you need to have an active internet connection. Let us take a look at the process.

  1. Firstly you need to download the Windows Update troubleshooter and thereupon you need run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostric.diagcab.
  2. This tool will then check the registry keys and thus will resolve the problems by disabling it. It is highly likely that It will take some time. So if it’s taking time than usual processes don’t panic and don’t ever close the windows while the process is on.
  3. Upon completion of the process, the tool will display a message on the screen which reads as “Troubleshooting has completed”. This is actually the confirmation message that the process has been completed.
  4. Close the window thereupon and restart your computer to let the changes take effect.
